Department Information
Methodology
Teaching methods are designed to develop a range of study skills.
Formal lectures and group work based around written and electronic materials are accompanied by the teaching of note-taking skills, with the aim of developing student autonomy in acquiring and organising information.
Informal discussion and preparation and delivery of formal debates develop powers of analysis and the ability to argue for and against a point.
Prep is vital and is covered in the relevant section of this website (click here if you want to see it now).
Lectures and workshops on essay writing skills culminate in timed essays which are analysed to strengthen skills in exam essay writing.
Girls are encouraged to 'keep an eye out' for real-life examples of psychology in the media and in their everyday life, and to present an analysis of these to the rest of the class.
